Aerotechnogenic polymetallic pollution in the conditions of Sterlitamak Industrial Center (SIC) and polymetallic pollution in combination with sulfur dioxide in the conditions of the Karabash Copper Smelter (KCS) suppress the vital state of birch stands relative to control, which is accompanied by a «moderately-stressful» adaptive reaction in both cases. Moreover, pollution in the KCS is a more significant stress factor for birch (stands are characterized by a «weakened» vital condition) than in the SIC (stands are characterized by a «healthy» vital condition). In contrast, under the conditions of aerotechnogenic petrochemical pollution of the Ufa Industrial Center (UIC) and polymetallic pollution in the Kumertau brown coal mine (KBCM) and Uchalinsky Mining and Processing Plant (UMPP) dumps, there is a slight improvement in the life state of birch stands relative to control, which is accompanied by a «neutral» adaptive reaction in the UIC and UMPP and «moderately tolerant» adaptive reaction in KBCM. Moreover, aerotechnogenic pollution in the UIC is a more significant stress factor for birch (stands are characterized by a «weakened» vital condition) than dumps of the mining industry (stands are characterized by a «healthy» vital condition). In general, aerotechnogenic pollution has a greater impact than mining dumps on the vital condition of stands. For all five industrial centers, the main diagnostic features that determine the relative vital state of stands are the density of trees crown and the presence of dead trees in the stands. The relative independence between the adaptive reactions of the vital condition and adaptive reactions of diagnostic features in the SIC and UIC is shown
